Have you ever wanted to do something special and unique for your partner but didn’t have an idea? We’ve all been there. Eventually you’ve seen all of the movies in the theatre and are going back again and again to the same restaurants. Mix it up by choosing one of the 7 unusual dates from this list! They’ll never expect it and you won’t regret it!

1. Twilight Thursdays or an Adults Evening at Science World
Learn and explore with your partner at the Telus World of Science on Twilight Thursdays. Until September 1st, the exhibits are open every Thursday until 9:00pm. This is a fun activity for the young at heart!
If a glass of wine and dinner is more your style, take your date to an adults only evening. Enjoy wine or beer, science shows and live entertainment. Experience the magic of Science World after hours, when all the kids have gone home!

2. Animal Encounters at the Vancouver Aquarium
The Vancouver Aquarium has just completed the most significant expansion in its 58 year history. If that isn’t enough to get you there ASAP (and bring your date!) a chance to get up close and personal with the animals might just do it! Feed the sea otters, dolphins or sea turtles, train a beluga or sea lion, or chill with the penguins. An amazing experience for animal lovers!

3. Date Night at Raw Canvas
If getting your hands dirty is your thing, take your partner into the painting pit at Raw Canvas. Enjoy wine and appies as you create your own masterpiece together. Wednesday is Date Night, when you can share a medium canvas for the price of a small! Get creative!

4. Dinner on Denman Street and Reserved Seating at an Outdoor Movie
If dinner and a movie is what you’re after, look no further than the Tuesday night summer outdoor cinema in Stanley Park. With the dinner and a movie option, you can beat the crowds and enjoy a leisurely dinner close by at a number of different restaurants on Denman Street. Or get tickets in the Yellow Pages Reserved VIP Seating and take your own picnic to beautiful Stanley Park!

5. Cooking Class at the Dirty Apron
One of the best Vancouver experiences is learning to cook at the Dirty Apron Cooking School. These 4 hour long hands-on classes include wine and a multi-course dinner (made by you!). A fun and fast-paced learning experience that you can share with your partner! The chefs are experts and the menus are varied. Whether you are learning to cook Italian, Japanese, seafood, meat or anything in between, you and your partner will have a fantastic date!

6. Celebration of Light
An evening of wonder is in store for you and your partner at the Honda Celebration of Light. At 10pm on July 26, July 30 and August 2 2014, thousands of sparkling fireworks will light up the sky above Vancouver. Make sure you get a spot early on either English Bay or Kitsilano Beaches! Bring a picnic, get some popcorn and cuddle up with your partner as the sky explodes above you.

7. High Tea
High Tea, or Afternoon Tea, is making a comeback in Vancouver! It’s a lovely, unusual way to do brunch. Finger sandwiches, flaky scones and delicious desserts are the typical fare, but some restaurants in Vancouver are fusing the usual English-style food with unique flavours. There are many places that serve Afternoon Tea but my favourites are the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, the Fairmont Pacific Rim and the Urban Tea Merchant.

  1. Hello Rebecca,
Another delightful tea salon run by a talented and passionate female entrepreneur is Soirette at 1433 W Pender Street. Pastry Chef Shobna Kannusamyis a Cordon Bleu trained pastry chef and makes the most splendid modern high tea. This is not your Auntie`s tea by any stretch. Beautiful, light and airy her space as well as her food are memorable. Reservations recommended- it is very popular with those in the know. And I love it and what she does!

  2. Hi heartinprovence,

Thank you so much for your comment and for reading my blog!
I have been to Soirette and loved their macarons! I have not been there for high tea yet, but I’m sure it would be a lovely experience as the salon itself is beautiful. I will have to try it soon, and perhaps I will contact Ms. Kannusamyis as I love to meet other female entrepreneurs. A more in-depth blog about the great high tea places in Vancouver may be called for as it’s such a great idea for a date!

Thank you again for your comment and I hope you keep reading!

    Rebecca
